Cataloging Librarian

Create original and adaptive LC cataloging records, using Unabridged Dewey and Library of Congress classification with Library of Congress subject headings per RDA rules and in MARC format

Create Enhanced MARC cataloging records online using Abridged Dewey classification, Sears subject headings, and MARC format

Format and utilize publisher- and/or LC-supplied information to generate pre-publication cataloging records per national standards and B&T conventions to support review source and special list cataloging activities, as needed

Examine item-in-hand or pre-publication material and write brief objective descriptive summaries (annotations)

Update pre-publication records with item-in-hand, as needed; correct errors

Job Requirements

Must have a Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school

Must have 2 years practical cataloging experience in a library or business environment, or have graduated from an MLIS program with cataloging coursework

Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations

Must be able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals

Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public

Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

Must be bilingual in Spanish; both written and verbally

Knowledge of publishers and publishing industry is a plus

Extensive knowledge of MARC records, integrated library systems and operations is a plus
